BRAINSTORMING IN ACTION
CONTEXT: Please see the “Initial Projects” page, Basic Data section: Global Brainstorming.
Brainstorming in Action: A Case Example
As stated in the “Global Brainstorming” section of this website, to develop a clear, systematic, and realistic road map of "what to do from now on," the IISCCIW would need to undertake a major global brainstorming process, in order to gather and synthesize perspectives, suggestions, and feedback from relevant experts and players around the world, to arrive at a practical consensus about the approaches and methods it would utilize toward achieving the objectives of its 3 primary pillars—see the “About” page of this website.
In order to do this, the needed scientific experts and policy-significant players around the world should be identified and then contacted, appropriately (establishing immediate and longer-term relationships) for the purpose of eliciting their brainstorming inputs and sustained collaboration.
Part of this process, in a preliminary sense, has been on-going since the IISCCIW's inception, causing, as a small but profound example, the evolution of the initiative's very name—Please see the “History” page of this website for more information.
In the context of planning the initiative, another aspect of this brainstorming process has, quite organically and naturally, manifested itself IN ACTION. Please notice the example below (communicated via e-mail) which is related to the “Who we are” page of this website, the “Academic/scientific leaders with active interest” section:

RE: Global Warming in the Islamic World Project
“Dear Dr. Brush...I would like to introduce you to Mojtaba Aghamohammadi...Attached are a couple of documents outlining his project...the IISCCIW. The purpose of [which] is...dealing with...and combating global warming and the devastating consequences of climate change [in the Islamic world...He is...] available for a face-face discussion, should you be interested...[Please] contact him directly...”
Prof. Brush responded:
“Dear Jennifer...Thank you for the notice about Dr. Agha's visit to Davis. Generally...climate change is outside [emphasis by this writer] of my area of interest and expertise. I am interested, however, in the...maintenance of the biological resources of crops. Of course, many Islamic countries, including Iran have both traditional farming communities and crop resources. If this is an area that might interest Dr. Agha, then I would be happy to meet him...”
Moji Agha [this writer] wrote:
“Dear Dr. Brush...Thanks for your interest. The project...certainly can and does pertain...to your areas of interest, in terms of the impacts of global warming/climate change on agriculture in general (including traditional farming practices), and on the protection of what remains of Earth's endangered biological resources (for example the seed heritage, if I understand it correctly), in the "Islamic world" and elsewhere--interconnected, of course. In other words, what you are pointing to is a part of what I call "brainstorming" [this writer's emphasis] in the proposal. Hence, the project needs a diversity of [perspectives] given the wide open scope of its mission...I do hope that I find the pleasure of meeting with you...”
Prof. Brush responded:
“Dear Dr. Agha...I am available to meet with you on Friday...Please confirm if you are able to see me then. Steve Brush.”
As we can see in this case example, the process of arriving, IN ACTION, at specific projects in this vast initiative is a phenomenon that is, by definition, exploratory and quite organically evolutionary, informed by many (often unanticipated) local and global preferences, conditions, and factors, both organically-arrived at and planned, or in combination, as in this instance.
In fact, the very inspiration (and hence the existence) of this “Brainstorming in Action” page (as a distinctive segment of this website--obviously a part of the IISCCIW's Global Brainstorming, which is one of its two initial projects) is a natural lesson, in a sense, of this writer's fortunate encounter with Prof. Steve Brush, precisely in the way it unfolded, ultimately resulting in attracting to this initiative, the participation (as appropriate) of such a distinguished researcher (clearly a highly relevant and needed expert scientist) who originally thought the mission of the IISCCIW as being “outside [his] interest and expertise,” but as a consequence of this organically-arrived at “brainstorming in action,” has now expressed active interest in our critical undertaking.
Thus, inviting all to learn about (and support) the IISCCIW initiative--as well as introducing it to others, as appropriate and possible--we hope that you contact us soon.
Please see the “Contact” and “Funding” as well as other pages of this website, in order to learn about this urgent task in greater depths (especially as it relates to your own work or interests—per the case example above); And in addition to hoping that you would support the IISCCIW, in all ways appropriate and possible, we sincerely hope that you choose to join us in “brainstorming in action” for the sake of our imperiled planet.
