Basic Data
Outline of our Approach to Gather the Needed Basic Data for Further Planning and Action (Summary)
In this initial planning phase of the IISCCIW, the following two projects need to be implemented (based on careful planning and preparation) in order to build a solid foundation for the initiative's future stages:
1- Information-gathering/Survey
To understand and document, as clearly and fully as possible: a) the "what is," and b) the
"what has been" of the interface (so far) of our planet's Islamic world with the processes of global warming and climate change, we need a comprehensive information-gathering and survey, worldwide, of prior and current studies, undertakings, policies, and actions (in, about, and related to the Islamic world's encounter with global warming/climate change); in other words, a kind of "literature review" of this interface up to now.
2- Global Brainstorming
To develop a clear, systematic, and realistic road map of "what to do from now on" (which requires very careful preparation and planning) regarding the interface above, our initiative would need to conduct a major global brainstorming process (which needs to get underway operationally as soon as possible, employing appropriate tools and processes), in order to gather and synthesize perspectives, suggestions, and feedback from relevant experts and players around the world, to arrive at a practical consensus about the IISCCIW's foundational perspectives and methods, as to how one should go about understanding, approaching, and developing the following:
a) The core processes and issues (theoretical and practical) and, b) the needed initial guidelines for appropriate actions and policy considerations, with regard to the diverse dimensions that characterize the project's overall objective, namely, the scientific understanding (as comprehensively as it is humanly possible) of the following processes and relationships:
1- The relevant past history and the present relationships, influences, and complexities that exist between global warming, climate change, environmental destruction, and the various aspects of the protection of natural life on Earth, on the one hand; and,
2- The diverse characteristics, strengths, challenges, contradictions, desires, and needs of the Islamic world populations, regions, and habitats of our imperiled planet, on the other.
Operational Statement of our Specific Objectives (Summary)
1- To impart education regarding global warming and climate change processes (and their consequences) in and about the Islamic world, and
2- To plan and carry out comprehensive interdisciplinary scientific research projects, aimed at understanding the interface of the Islamic world with global warming and climate change, with the aim of developing appropriate solutions and applicable policies and strategies, locally, nationally, regionally, and internationally, especially in and about the Islamic world (and related) populations, regions, and habitats of our planet, facing such processes.
