FUNDING

Funding Considerations for the IISCCIW

Given the unique characteristics and sensitivities of the IISCCIW's mission, it is imperative that its funding is “clean and string-free,” the kind of money/supports that does not bring with it, overt expectations or hidden motives or agendas--as much as it is absolutely and humanly possible in today’s world of political, ideological, and/or economic, often subtle, pressures and influences.

Thus, to protect the IISCCIW from such harms, starting from the start and so far, its Founder/Director (the initiative's sole “staff” person--engaged with it far more than full-time) has funded it entirely from personal resources, despite the hardships of the fact that he (this writer) is not financially wealthy or connected.

While this protective sensitivity may slow down or perhaps limit, somewhat, the initiative's ability to achieve (at least some of) its objectives, it does perform the critical task of ensuring the IISCCIW's transparency, accountability, and operational health, and thus safeguarding its credibility and effectiveness, especially in the long-term.

Therefore, we hope that the IISCCIW's initial (and later) funding comes, primarily from proper and transparent philanthropic, academic, and other appropriate private or public sources, country-specifically, regionally, and internationally; In order words, the initiative requires funding with “clean intent.”

Clearly then, devising plans and procedures for the initial (and sustained) proper funding of the IISCCIW, including plans for appropriate fundraising activities for it, would be an integral part of its organizational evolution and development.

The Islamic World Climate Change Fund (IWCCF)

Given the introduction above, and in part to protect the initiative from undue pressure or influence, we are planning the creation of an “Islamic World Climate Change Fund (IWCCF)” to become the funding “branch” or “adjunct” of the IISCCIW.

The monies that combine together in such a pool of funds, would come from many and diverse sources worldwide, from persons as well as institutions, so that in addition to symbolically emphasizing the “integrated” nature of the IISCCIW's mission, the “collective” nature of the IWCCF would protect the initiative from becoming “indebted” to any particular source of funding or support, hence protecting it from undue hidden expectations, influences, interferences, or even covert pressures, namely, “strings.”

Immediate Funding Objectives

At this point (as of June, 2008) the objective of the IISCCIW/IWCCF is to obtain “seed-funding” for the activities of the initiative's initial “birth” phase--from now to the end of 2009, approximately. Please see the “Initial Projects, Action Steps” of this website for details.

The following list summarizes the kinds of expenses and activities for which such initial funds are needed:

1- Staff compensation--depending on available funding, of course: Namely, one full-time employee (i.e., the initiative's sole staff person at present--this writer) and as many part-time paid support staff that we can afford—hopefully 3 such persons.

2- The expenses of establishing the IISCCIW's initial 2 offices (one in the U.S. and one in Iran—to start) including rent, utilities, office equipment and supplies, etc.

3- Travel and transportation expenses, including airfare, food, lodging, taxi service, etc.

4- Communication and publicity expenses, including computer, telephone, postage, posters, etc.

5- Expenses of the development and maintenance of the IISCCIW's Internet website--beyond its crude state, information and communication data bases, and the initiative's face-book page, weblog, etc.

6- Fees/expenses for the initiative's needed professional services, such as:

a) financial/accounting/payroll services; b) Insurance services; c) Legal advice and services; and, d) Security services--and also miscellaneous/unforeseen expenses--as needed.

The IISCCIW's Temporary/Interim Organizational Funding Arrangements

As indicated in the “Organization” page of this website, the State of Arizona-based [registration/file number 1043038-9] tax-exempt 501-C-3 U.S. non-profit organization or NGO [IRS identification number 77-0598700] the “Universal Coalition for Interfaith and Intercultural Knowledge and Action (UCIIKA),” founded in 2002--also by this writer, namely, Moji Agha, A.K.A. Mojtaba Aghamohammadi (its President), has accepted to be the “fiscal agent” for the IISCCIW/IWCCF on a temporary/interim basis, until such time that the organizational “basing” arrangements for the initiative are finalized.

Financial Contributions/Donation Instructions (Temporary/Interim)

Needless to say, the IISCCIW/IWCCF would warmly appreciate large financial contributions or small donations (tax-deductible in the U.S., per applicable laws) from all appropriate persons or institutions, as long as they are made with the understandings (aimed at protecting this sensitive initiative) that are described above—and hence, we reserve the right to return any improper contributions/donations, solely at our discretion.

What has been presented in the “Contact” page of this website is the proper contact information/addresses for the IISCCIW (or the IWCCF), regarding ALL matters for which the initiative may need to be contacted.

However, only financial contributions/donations may also be sent to the following mailing address—which is shorter and easier to use:

UCIIKA
P.O. Box 14705
Tucson, AZ   85732-4705  (U.S.)
Attention: Moji Agha (for IISCCIW)

Per the “fiscal agent” information indicated above, please make the check (or money order, etc.) payable to: UCIIKA
However, please indicate in the memo/for line: Only for IISCCIW/IWCCF (c/o Moji Agha)

Carefully noting the “fiscal agent” tax-exemption/deductibility information indicated above, please let us know if you prefer for the contribution to be considered as a tax-deductible one, and if you would like a formal “letter of acknowledgment and appreciation” from the IISCCIW (especially for large contributions/donations) which obviously we would be happy to send, to the mailing address you would indicate.

Please also tell us if you prefer that your financial contribution/donation to the IISCCIW/IWCCF (only from appropriate persons or institutions) to be publicly acknowledged on our website, by name, or as “anonymous.”

Also, if you prefer to “ear-mark” your contribution/donation for a specific project, purpose, or location, please clearly indicate such a preference in writing (it can be via e-mail) and we would do our utmost, as appropriate, to honor your desire. We would urge you, however, to notify us prior to making such “ear-marked” contributions or donations.

FINALLY, WE THANK YOU FOR DOING WHATEVER YOU ARE ABLE TO DO,

TO SAFEGUARD OUR DEEPLY IMPERILED MOTHER EARTH:

OUR “COMMON GROUND” ONLY HOME IN THE UNIVERSE.

LET US PROTECT IT TOGETHER, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!
