SUMMARY

IISCCIW: A Summary

The “Islamic world” (and related) populations of our interdependent planet, comprise almost ¼th of humanity, coexist with perhaps 1/3rd of the remaining living species on our imperiled planet [the rate of extinction of species is at least one per hour at present], and are concentrated in South and East Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, respectively.

Starting with the IISCCIW's initial 2 projects, namely, conducting a comprehensive information-gathering/survey and a global brainstorming process, we strive to achieve our research (and policy development) objectives, by utilizing (primarily) the wisdom of the following four scientific components: a) Physical and Atmospheric Sciences; b) Environmental, Natural Resources, and Agricultural Sciences; c) Economic, Legal, and Management Sciences; and, d) Social, Theological, Behavioral, and Health Sciences.

The IISCCIW “think tank” hopes to add and develop integrated scientific knowledge about the following:

1- The relevant past history and the present relationships, influences, and complexities that exist between global warming, climate change, environmental destruction, and the various aspects of the protection of natural life, on the one hand; and,
2- The diverse characteristics, strengths, challenges, contradictions, desires, and needs of the Islamic world populations, regions, and habitats of our imperiled planet, on the other.

IISCCIW's Four Pillars (Summary)

Through the wisdom of the four scientific components listed above (our "how to do"), we intend to build, and/or further develop/augment the following four “what to do” pillars:

PILLAR I (Education/Informing):

Educating and informing the populations living in what is called "the Islamic world" on our globe (concentrated in Islamic countries or living as minorities elsewhere) about the nature, characteristics, dynamics, and consequences of global warming and climate change;

PILLAR II (Mitigation/Combating):

Developing or augmenting the needed intellectual, organizational, and physical infrastructures and the required policies and actions to enable these populations to participate effectively in mitigating/combating such human-caused processes, thus preventing the consequences of global warming and climate change from worsening even further;

PILLAR III (Adaptation/Coping):

Developing appropriate and effective adaptation/coping mechanisms and strategies for such populations, regions, and habitats, as they begin to actually face the increasingly worsening consequences of global warming and climate change;

PILLAR IV (Evaluation and conflict management):

Developing appropriate and objective evaluation, consultation, course-correction, and conflict management processes for the project itself, and for the processes/policies that it would try to actualize, toward hopefully helping to heal our imperiled planet, engaging the participation of its Islamic world inhabitants.
Operationally stated, the IISCCIW's objectives are:

1- To impart education and information regarding global warming and climate change processes (and their consequences) in and about the Islamic world, and

2- To plan and carry out comprehensive interdisciplinary scientific research projects, aimed at understanding the interface of the Islamic world with global warming and climate change, with the goal of developing appropriate solutions and applicable policies and strategies, locally, nationally, regionally, and internationally, specifically in and about the Islamic world (and related) populations, regions, and habitats of our planet, in their encounter with such processes.
