THE NEED

Why is the IISCCIW Needed?

The needs for which the IISCCIW has been founded are presently unmet, due to a variety of political, economic, social, cultural, and religious reasons, causing very little or no coordinated scientific attention being paid to the dire problem of global warming/climate change in the Islamic world--and elsewhere.

Meanwhile trying to preserve the fragile web of life on our imperiled planet requires, especially at this tumultuous time in human history, the active cooperation of ALL of our planet's inter-dependent inhabitants, including its "Islamic world" populations--almost 1/4the of humanity. But unfortunately, religious, geo-political, economic, and other tensions and conflicts are at present preventing the badly needed effective engagement of these populations (concentrated in Islamic countries or living as minorities elsewhere) in understanding, dealing with, and combating the processes of global warming and climate change, and their calamitous increasingly on-going consequences.

In other words, the IISCCIW initiative is proposed and planned to be a unique interdisciplinary multi-institutional international scientific "think-tank," striving to develop proper solutions, based on studying, as comprehensively as possible, how the Islamic world populations, regions, and habitats of our planet face the complex processes that are commonly referred to as global warming and/or climate change, and in particular, how they deal with the unfolding manifestations and horrific consequences of such destructive processes, in addition to trying to prevent the situation from getting even worse.
